proof: a version of a document or colour
illustration produced specifically for the purpose of review prior to
production
recycled pulp: pulp made from waste/previously used paper
and board used to make new paper or board
register: the printing of two or more plates in juxtaposition
so that they complete a design if printed on the same side of a sheet
or back up accurately if printed on opposite sides of the sheet
retouching: the manipulation treatment of a digital image,
photographic negative or positive, so as to modify tonal values or to
enhance the image or compenstate for imperfections
right reading: paper/film, positive/negative from an
imagesetter which can be read in the usual way - i.e. - left to right
saddle-wire stitching: to stitch with wire through the
back of folded work
scanner: electronic colour scanners produce, from colour
transparencies or colour copy, colour corrected screened separations for
the four printing ink colours
spot colour: any area of colour that is not printed using
a cmyk process set
vignette: this term usually refers to a single dot pattern
that may start at 50% dot and gradually decrease to say 5% in a smooth
graduation
